Being a Volunteer Teacher at La Comunidad que Construimos is an incredibly rewarding experience and a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children and their families here in Trujillo. You will work with an official NGO, dedicated teachers and educators that have now served the community for years.
We see the English Teacher role as crucial to the success of our organization, as our volunteer teachers provide children with the necessary tools to build their self-esteem and confidence through our educational programs and workshops in the Alto Trujillo district daily.
Teaching takes place each day in 45 minute sessions, between 7.30-12:30, Monday - Friday, in Alto Trujillo. Don't worry our teachers do not start at 7.30am every day! We work around the timetable provided by the schools.
Volunteers teach kids aged 6 to 12 years-old in groups of up to 20 children. There are 6 primary levels in total, of 2 classes each. Each class is assigned a local qualified primary teacher. Unfortunately, none of them can teach the English curriculum. Sometimes up to 4 classes are scheduled for an English class at the same time, so depending on how many volunteers we have, we may have the chance to organize a super fun art or P.E. activity with a large group of kids, also supervised by their respective Primary teachers, of course.
